I'm getting flashbacks to my time in the Harry Potter and LotR fandoms...

Anyone else remember when awkward photomanips were all rage?

he was probably raped in prison like the good little republican bitch he is, so no wonder he thinks it's funny

I don't ship it either, but that is a damn good piece of art.

Okay, can I just ask but…how did he find that? Because when I google him, that does NOT pop up. So was he just specifically looking for something "risqué" to post or what? It seems to me that you would need much more specific search parameters to find that piece of art.

Google adjusts its results based on things you've searched for in the past.

Make of that what you will.

I would be eternally amused if he had a secret tumblr.

I wouldn't be surprised at all.

On a Sherlock Holmes kink meme I used to frequent, there was a running gag about him anonymously filled prompts. I can't remember exactly where the joke originated, but I do recall reading somewhere that RDJ actually was aware of the kink meme's existence.

It's certainly not outside the realm of possibilities. Celebrities do sort of look themselves up to be aware of how their public image is perceived.

I saw that! The art itself is gorgeous (seriously, well done), but yea...not my pairing. Still, it's neat that RDJ is so chill about it.

Honestly, I find it a bit odd that a movie star might be seriously bothered by it. A bit uncomfortable yeah. But I'm not even close to famous and the thought of random people on the internet shipping me with other hot women doesn't bother me in the slightest even though I've never had the slightest inkling towards sexual attraction to women (unfortunately).

Not that anyone must LIKE it, of course, but given how there are so many shirtless scenes and eye candy scenes, what else do you expect? It's just an extension of the way celebrities sell their images to generate a base audience.

I completely understand why it might make some people uncomfortable, but I can't recall any celebs that are seriously bothered by it. I kind of agree in that when you're famous, this sort of thing just happens and there's really no stopping it. You don't have to like it, but if you can't keep a sense of humor about it then things are going to be difficult. A little awkwardness, I get, but anything beyond that...I don't. (However, it seems like RDJ doesn't even find it awkward, he just delights in it; that I find amusing.)

(Unless, like, we're talking RPF involving the celebs kids or something, in which case...please don't, but fanart of the characters? That shit has been around for ages, and it isn't going anywhere. YMMV, but that seems kind of flattering to me, haha.)

I just remember that Zachary Quinto seemed weirdly annoyed at Kirk/Spock shipping (although the person who asked him about it was a Grade-A moron…seriously WHY????). I mean, that's been going on since before he was BORN. It really has nothing to do with HIM and everything to do with Spock the character so I just found it weird that he seemed bothered by it. Kirk/Spock is one of the most famous pairings too (there's been quite a lot of academic study on it) so I don't know why he was so put off by it when it kind of came with the package (for lack of a better descriptor).

But…yeah…RDJ seems totally into how wacky fandom is - which probably makes him only more popular. I don't feel that celebrities should be obliged to take part (god knows it can be exhausting) but it certainly can be fun when they do.

Agreed on RPF, though. I can totally see why that would someone. But I feel like that's a separate issue from fandom and shipping.

I do agree that fan art can be flattering. Especially because the fan art he chose was REALLY REALLY good. That artist is amazingly talented.

The Zachary Quinto thing was indeed odd. I forgot about that. I don't know what exactly bothered him about it (Though he seems like the type of guy who would want people to support canon gay characters, but you can do that while still shipping a non canon pairing), but I don't let it bother me; I like Quinto's Spock (one of the few, apparently), but idc what he thinks about my shipping of Kirk/Spock. I shipped them before he came along, and he can't stop me!

IA about the rest. RPF isn't the same, but since it tends to be brought up so often it just came to mind. I also don't approve of people mentioning fanfic or shipping to celebs, but since they do it anyway it's nice when they either approve or don't mind.
