While yes, when you get over a certain weight it might have disadvantages to your health - but that is separate from how you feel about yourself psychologically. I.E. - while losing weight might benefit you, nothing good has ever come from fat people being self-loathing, in fact it might hinder your weight loss if you have negative self image.
And that's sort of why, as a fat person losing weight, I really like him as a role model. Because he's sort of no-bullshit and honest about it - about both the good and the bad.

Getting in shape, eating healthy food will have a positive impact on your life, it sucks and not everyone can do it overnight or as successfully as someone else, and having celebrities being honest about both sides of the equation is refreshing and really important.
Someones weight or eating habits should not and is not a way to measure anyones worth or how you should feel about yourself. The second I started telling myself that even if I am not the most pretty, or the skinniest I am still worth exactly the same, and I am allowed to feel good about myself, bad skin, fat and imperfections. It had a positive impact on my life, both my inner personal life, but also I danced at a bar (that wasn't fully packed and I could hide) for the first time a couple of weeks ago and even if I wasn't great a quite good looking man wanted to dance with me and the last six months is the first time I have really felt like men are looking at me when I go out. Which is superficial, but also really nice.
Woah, sorry about unloading that on you. I haven't really been on F!S lately and this is usually where I share the random stuff about my life that I don't always talk to my RL friends about.

Having grown up overweight, ranging from just chubby to actually medically obese, I have such a complicated relationship with my body and food - especially as with me it was also tied in with depression (I eat when I'm miserable).
And I feel like media representation of what it's like to be fat is just so...well,insane.
On one hand you have the "miracle" weight loss cures, and the young pretty girls obsessed with weight. Then you have perfectly shaped celebs. Or you have actually morbidly obese people in medical shows who ARE in fact in danger, can't walk, have sores etc.
It's just so extreme. It's rare to see fat people who just sort of...are, you know. Who just get on with life like everyone else. Who go to college, succeed or fail in jobs, succeed or fail in relationships...like everyone else. Hell, best thing you can sort of hope for is a comic relief sidekick or an wise matronly older woman.
And then you have HAES, who I think are a good counterweight in theory, but who in practice have a lot of people who just flat out deny the possibility of medical complications with obesity (which I also think is wrong).
And the worst part to me is that the looks/health issues CONSTANTLY gets muddled, and really no, it shouldn't be.
So having someone like Chris Pratt is well, really refreshing, and I can see why so many people latch onto him.
