Creative problem solving

My family has this huge freezer and the door doesn't stay shut. So, way back when, my dad took a buckle from a ski-boot and drilled it into the side of the freezer so you lock and unlock the freezer the same way you'd tighten a ski-boot.

What inventive things have you or someone you know come up with to solve problems? (I'm thinking more physical stuff here.)

When I was a kid I got a roll-top desk to do homework on, but in high school when I finally got my own computer the monitor and keyboard didn't fit on it comfortably. My dad screwed a metal monitor stand to the top to give the monitor a ledge to sit on, and then added a square shelf to the edge of the desktop to make it L-shaped; that's where the keyboard goes. I can't say it's pretty, but it works.

Our refrigerator is currently not staying shut so we just tape it shut.
Tons and tons of tape on a hiking boot in the middle of a hike when the boot broke...the usual hair pain to unzip a zipper...sewing things together. My mom crazy glued and welded my glasses together when I was younger...

At one time, I used to crawl under my car every morning to tie the exhaust system up with a fistful of zip-ties which would be mostly burnt through by the time I got home from work.

I thought my sister's boyfriend only being able to enter his car through the trunk was bad...! Luckily he got that fixed not long after they started going out.

How much do you think having a girlfriend had to do with that? ;P
