That too! Villains who play everyone from behind the scenes, whether or not they're even the main one, are some of my favourites. Especially when they feel they've been snubbed for any and all petty reasons and put in motion their idea of retribution (however disproportionate).

Pretty sure you can the full movie on youtube too, but look for the one where Laurence Fishburne plays the title character. Branagh pulls the smug very naturally, and it comes through when he soliloquies at the camera when he's tricking everyone.

Ahh, thank you! Branagh is definitely one of my favourite actors. He's just SO GOOD.
