(Anonymous) 2014-12-04 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)They say it because losing weight doesn't necessarily make you healthier. Whether or not it makes you healthier depends on a number of factors including: 1) how fat you were before losing weight, 2) how healthy you were before losing weight (e.g. blood pressure, cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels), 3) how much weight you lost, 4) what method you used to lose weight, 5) how quickly you lost weight, and 6) whether you keep the weight off short-term or long-term. It's actually very common for people to lose weight in a way that makes them more unhealthy than they were originally.
By contrast, eating healthier foods and getting an appropriate amount and variety of exercise does make you healthier overall, no question, even if you don't lose any weight in the process. (As does getting enough sleep, staying adequately hydrated, managing your stress levels, not smoking, and either abstaining or drinking alcohol in moderation.)
