lol he can chillax in the spirit world. the dude is fine

(Anonymous) 2014-12-05 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this. He can meditate and chill out in the spirit world.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-05 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
ikr? He has it way better than most prisoners. If he can have free reign in a whole other world, then being imprisoned in the human world probably isn't that bad

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Free rein". That means "unchecked freedom".

"Free reign" implies unchecked leadership or rulership, which he doesn't have.

thanks, english isn't my first language and homophones sometimes really confuse me

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. He's probably running about and having the time of his life. Especially if he has come across Iroh. I can see both of them playing games and drinking tea all day long.

This might be off-topic, but now I really kinda would like to know what kind of encounter Iroh's and Zaheer's would be. I mean, it even feels realistic thing to happen, even if it possibly won't happen on screen. Thanks for this food for my thoughts, Anon. Peace.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
he can probably hang out with the spirit of his dead girlfriend all day, too.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
da

iirc correctly, most humans don't actually go to the spirit world. when korra and iroh met there, he mentioned that he was a special case and that he got to go there because he was already so fond of the spirit world or something like that

Considering that the dude's an airbender who can fucking fly, I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to have him in anything less than a strait-jacket and grounded somehow. So I'm not seeing how he'd be able to play games. Unless, you had a guard make the moves for him.

Hm, now I kinda want fic of Zaheer and a guard playing pai sho while the guard makes all the moves on the board. Zaheer would continually get frustrated because the guard keeps mishearing his orders and keeps moving pieces to the wrong spots.

Did you forget that he tried to murder Korra? I think helping her get over her mental block was the least he could do.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
And he'll pay the rest of his life for it, never sorry that he tried. But he stood to gain nothing personal from helping Korra. He did it for the world, and I think him actually positively affecting the world shouldn't be completely ignored.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
na

he was also the one who fucked up the world in the first place...

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
He did one thing that caused real damage: he assassinated the Earth Queen and broke down the walls of Ba Sing Se. That (first part) was wrong, attempted murder/kidnapping/anarchy was wrong, he should be locked up, I'm not arguing it. But he just set off the chain of events. What happened next is on Kuvira, and the rest of the world for not responding properly to crisis.

Yeah, this. The nice thing is that Korra has had such nuanced villains - and that from Zaheer's POV, he really did think he was doing good. He's not "MUWAHAHA, I'm evil, let's take over the world!"

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
This is true. You can even see where Kuveria is coming from. Earth Kingdom was in chaos and needed a strong leader to bring it back. But she let the power go to her head and became a tyrant.

It still doesn't mean Korra owes Zaheer any thanks for helping to fix what he broke to begin with.
