Was that supposed to be witty or humorous? Because it wasn't.

I fucking hate the "nerds sitting around talking about stuff nerds like" genre of webcomic. They're all so boring and uninspired and derivative. And they all have shitty art.

Oh my god, agreed. that wasn't even smart or funny. I think the only webcomic I've read that did it well was Shortpacked.

It's not supposed to be. It's a rant.

Good job being so stupid you couldn't see that.

You seem kind of angry.

You seem kind of like a cunt.

No. It wasn't supposed to be either. It was supposed to shut up the people who keep complaining about that stupid lightsaber.

And there are people here complaining about that stupid lightsaber in the exact way the comic describes.

What I want to know is whether people were complaining about that utterly, utterly idiotic lightsaber design when it showed up in the comics and the pen-and-paper RPG. I'll bet ten bucks some were, and rightfully so.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe they were, but that doesn't change the fact that a lot of people bitching about it now say it's just the studio or JJ Abrams trying to be "cool" and that "ruins everything."

If that lightsaber ruins everything, everything was ruined a decade ago.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I don't really give a rat's ass about the studio or Abrams, nor do I think it really 'ruins' things any more than, say, Jar Jar Binks did. But it definitely make the suspension of disbelief more difficult to maintain.

I mean a lightsaber was a somewhat dicey proposition to begin with. Just how dangerous does a weapon have to be to its own wielder, and not due to any potential malfunction but as a fundamental and necessary aspect of its design, before it's just not worth the risk to carry and use it? I feel like George Lucas was skirting the edge of 'nope' with the original weapon, but got away with it by virtue of the sheer cool factor, whereas this one just crosses the line too blatantly to be ignored.
