People were excited because SIX YEARS OF WORLD WAR HAD ENDED. This wasn't exactly the same thing as those street harassment videos posted nowadays. "It's over! We made it!" *smooch*

I get all SJW about some things, but this quaint little relic of a day of mass jubilation? Not so much. Especially not when the woman involved seems to remember the kiss as just another moment in a wonderful day.
