That Moffat secret got me wondering whether or not there other similar "hater cliques" in other fandoms?

I've blocked close to 40 people on tumblr for ship hate in my fandom, and now that I think about it, most of them are friends with each other.

Idk, is this a thing?

There's genwunners in the Pokémon who think the first generation is best and everything else sucks, but tbh, people who fall back on that insult are worse and probably can't coherently argue with people who didn't like gen 6 or something.

Star Wars: OT v PT says it all.

I am no familiar with those abbreviations, please elaborate.

I'd actually say it breaks down more into those who like the PT vs those who don't. I've never seen anyone who loves the PT but hates the original trilogy.

Is there a movie only/expanded universe divide as well? I heard there was a bit of wank when it was announced that Episode VII would be discounting all expanded universe canon, but I didn't quite dip my head in all the way to check it out.

Until last year there was a monster Nabiki!Hate clique in Ranma fandom. You literally could not say a word in favor of her being an interesting character without being called a pro-rape sexual pervert with sociopathic tendencies.

There is also the -Anyone who criticizes Joss Whedon or doesn't support his shows to the hilt no matter how bad they are deserves abuse- hater clique from the Joss Whedon base. In that case it is more a hate on anyone who doesn't uncritically support.

I've more into more people who actively profess hate for Joss Whedon whenever he comes up. But then I guess I wouldn't detect the other kind so much...

Oddly enough, in the doll fandom. It's mainly people who don't understand that some people want to talk social implications about the stuff we like and we just keep it out of the main tag.

I see it mostly with shipping in SnK. Every so often you'll get a rash of people going into tags of various ships and shitting on everything.
And sometimes they write manifestos about how those shippers are gross and awful and nobody should ever ship it. It's massively tiresome and makes me miss modded LJ/DW comms SO HARD.

I'd argue Twilight has millions of them, although I think the past year or so people have gotten over the fact that Twilight exists.

I mean, I actually felt a bit bad for people in Twilight fandom, because even TV Tropes (the page, not the forums) made fun of them. I think Twilight is stupid and sexist, but...

The Wincest vs Destiel people. And the people who believe Destiel will become canon vs those who do not.

Well, cliques of any sort form because the people involved share a mindset or a perspective on things, so it makes sense that the people who hate something will all gravitate together to validate their hate, I guess?

I see it on the shipping divide in my fandoms also, and have blocked in much the same way you have. But it was oddly convenient whenever hatewank cropped up because it meant I could block a great swathe of similar people all at once.

Yeah, my first thought when I think about hater cliques was Bleach. Specifically the bleachness crew. Wonder if they're still in the fandom.

my fandom had a group of brilliant people drop in who decided that the main OTP (a man and his male former-slave) was problematic, so they went to the blogs of all the shippers and insulted them and tried to stir up shit, then tried to replace that ship with their own preferred ship... same man, FEMALE slave (not problematic somehow). Luckily they seem to have disappeared since no one really gave them much attention.

Is this Vikings by any chance (Ragnar/Athelstan)? I heard that there was a bunch of wank about that ship all of a sudden.

There's a small group of douchebags in my fandom that are of the 'I ship everything and that makes me better than you' mindset, so I stay the fuck away from them.

Do you mean like korrasami vs makorra or Pentecost vs chuck (pacific rim)?

Formula 1 fandom got two big ones:

- Those who hate Sebastian Vettel
- Those who either hate Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg.

There is a surprising overlap between those who hate Vettel and loves Hamilton...

I'm not into Formula 1, but there's this thread on this one board that I'm on where I've definitely seen that.

The Livejournal hater cliques for every fandom I was ever in. There were always kill joys that would either try to squash out shipping or would squabble amongst themselves for influence within each comm. Good riddance. I'll take Tumblr squeeing any day over that nonsense.

It's far from the only hater clique IN the fandom.

They're a lot quieter now, but there are still Martha Haters out there posting in the Martha Jones tag. Because she's Not Rose. (Which would, in fact, be the whole point of, you know, having a different character.)

And there are still people out there who hate the Sixth Doctor, which just boggles my mind.

There are also people who say that the Fourth Doctor is the only Doctor worth watching, and it's all gone downhill since Tom Baker left back in '81, and us damn 80s kids with our Colin Baker and our Sylvester McCoy should get off their lawn.
