Height differences in couples, yay or nay?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-06 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by our anatomically concerned secret maker. Also if you do like them, which who do like taller?

In RL, I like guys that are taller than me. I'm above average height for a woman, so when I'm intimate I like someone who can make me feel not like the giantess I am. In fictional couples, meh. I don't care unless the height difference starts getting creepy. Once you reach the point where one partner can pick the other up like a naughty child, then it has reached creepy point. That is more a power discrepancy thing though.

I don't care honestly but I have nothing against them either. I think they can be cute.

I like Peeta/Katniss even though Katniss is taller. I like Anakin/Padmé even though Anakin is taller. I like reboot Kirk/Spock even though they are about the same height. I like Azula/Ty Lee too and they're about as tall as one another.

It can be cute but height has never been a deal breaker for me in any direction.

I didn't know Katniss was taller - that's so cute.

na

I like it too (jennifer lawrence is like five foot nine inches, holy cow)! I think she might be shorter in the books since she was so malnourished for much of her life, but I like imagining their movie canon heights

Always yay, and either or.

They're fine, they're aces, I don't really care either way.

If I do see one, though, the best are usually ones with super-tall girls.

Emphatic yay. I kind of like it if the more assertive one (in personality, not necessarily sexually) one is shorter but that's just because it's more fun that way.

Exactly the same for me!

Mostly I don't care either way, but toppy short guys is kind of a thing for me, maybe just from a "runs counter to usual expectations" thing?

Maybe it's the same reason I also like ones where the "bottom" or "uke" of the pairing as the absolute boss of the "top/seme" character?

Don't really care, but it can be hot. Sometimes descriptions in fic of size difference hits my buttons and sometimes I'm like "whatevs."

Yay if it's canon, nay if a barely-there height difference is exaggerated in fanon.

Only up to a point. If the difference is a foot or more, then it bothers me.

And I don't really care who's taller.

I have a big soft spot for "big scary guy with a secret heart of gold/tiny, emotionally-damaged girl who can still kick your ass" pairings. It's mostly just loving the personality types together, but the "comforting hugs from a giant" bit is also definitely part of the appeal. Aside from that specific combination, height difference doesn't matter to me one way or the other.

Re: Height differences in couples, yay or nay?

I'm definitely not indifferent to it. It depends on the couple but generally I do like the more dominant character to be taller. Or, I like the older person to be taller (like even if there's an adult child, I'd like to tuck him/her under their parent's chin if they're hugging).

I find LOTR can be a bitch when it comes to height differences. Thingol is supposed to be like 9 feet tall. Turgon's maybe seven or eight. All the Numenoreans are like 7 feet tall, with Elendil maybe around eight. So, if you figure that Melian's probably chose to be a height around her husband (or she could be taller since she's a Maia), then Luthien is freakin' tall. I've always pictured Beren's people to be about "average" (between the tall House of Hador and the normal Haladin) so he might be six foot something. But, compared to the Elves, he's short. And, I'd rather he was taller than Luthien just because I like that aesthetic for them.

Then you try to figure out Elrond's height and where do you even begin? Trying to figure out the logistics of the height differences among the First Age Elves and humans is an interesting exercise.

Don't mind them (unless they conflict with the actual people's heights, like in the secret) and I don't care who's taller.

Very much yes! I romanced Alistair with a dwarf (watching him get down on bended knee just to kiss the Warden was adorable) and now I'm playing as a dwarf to romance Iron Bull. It fills me with joy to see them standing side by side.

...Maybe liking such a height difference is odd, but I find it cute and aesthetically appealing in some way I can't fully explain. (I wish I could romance a dwarf... looking at you, Scout Harding.)

I am always baffled at how strongly people feel about height differences - yay, nay, whatever.

I love them. But there doesn't have to be a height difference for me to love the couple itself.

I tend to like height differences in het (girl or guy can be taller) but prefer same or close to same height in fem/slash (it's certainly not a dealbreaker).

In fiction, I'm a sucker for tall guy/short girl in relationships, esp. if the girl is the dominant one, but even if that's not the case, I love it when the male is taller than her.

(In RL, I'm a tall woman in a relationship with quite a shorter guy. I suppose I always dreamed to find a guy that was taller than me, but alas, love doesn't choose partners in base of their height.)

It's adorable. I like when the man is taller
