(Anonymous) 2014-12-07 04:42 am (UTC)(link)I have to completely disagree that that's "gen." That's pre-slash, not gen, if the follow-up fic is slash and was always planned to be slash. Gen, as far as I'm concerned, is for when the interpretation of the central relationship in the fic is intended as a platonic relationship. What you describe would actually fall directly into my other disliked category -- "'but there's no kissing!' plausible deniability shit."
And...um, "no explicit sex" is so not what I mean when I say "namby pamby wink wink." I DEFINITELY don't mean all slash fic should have explicit sex scenes. Fuck no. That's...completely utterly ridiculous. Gay romantic love is not all about sex any more than het romantic love is. And sex scenes are NOT the point of fanfic for me. They're a nice fringe benefit and can be fascinating character exploration, sometimes, but...no. WOW no. Holy shit no. I mean, nothing wrong with it if that's what you're personally interested in when it comes to fanfic, but for me....no. Sorry, but you got my meaning totally wrong.
What I mean by "not namby pamby" is that slash fics should be upfront about being slash fics, about the fact that the emotions and interactions in that fic are intended to be seen as romantic and not handwaved as "that could totally be just platonic!" And slashers (yeah, probably young ones... IA with that) acting like gay romances are something omg so ~edgy and ~hardcore and so ~different from het romance, and the only way to include gayness is to hide it and sneak it in under oblivious censors' noses. I mean fuck that namby-pamby hiding and sneaking. It's so 1970s.
Also...what do you do if the author doesn't write fic with sex scenes due to not being interested in sex scenes?

A FIC AUTHOR WHO IS NOT INTERESTED IN WRITING PORN?
