I know it's OT, but now I wonder if transformers can suffer from depression.

Also, I'm sorry about your dad. my parents are pretty much in denial about my mental issues to this day.

I think Dead End (of the Stunticons) would probably qualify as depressive, though it was played more for comedy.

Most certainly. Dead End's been mentioned. Dirge's the same way. I'm sure there's an Autobot or two with similar personalities.

Hell, a lot of TF characters (especially in G1) seem to have their entire characterization built around embodying one psychological issue (depression, paranoia, impulse control problems, etc)...

Very belated reply, but one of the current ongoings - More Than Meets The Eye - explores a whole host of psychological issues and is extraordinarily entertaining while doing it. And also horrifying and tragic and hilarious. Um. There's a lot of mood whiplash.

*big hugs* OP, if you want them. Bide your time and never be ashamed of your coping mechanisms.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I just want to give you a hug and tell you it's OK and not your fault!

G1 Optimus, maybe. That looks like Prime Optimus and he endorses torture of prisoners and repression of feelings in order to win the war. You gotta be careful on picking your Optimus!Father Figure, not all Optimii are equal. If it is Transformers Prime, maybe Megatron would be a better father figure, if for no other reason than he's willing let you take any and all frustrations out on Starscream.

I used to wish that William Riker was my dad for the same reason.

If it helps at all, I'm now okay as an adult.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone wants Optimus Prime to be their dad. Even people who have good dads themselves want Optimus Prime to be their dad. Feel no shame, OP.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
You're not alone, OP! I've posted similar secrets in the past, since I see Optimus as the father I never had when mine failed me horribly.

I won't judge your dad until I know the exact circumstances OP. You sound like a whiny spolied brat.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
go gargle a large mug of live house centipedes, seriously. people like you only exist to get their rocks off on tearing other people down because you want to be edgy and sooo cooool like your heroes in vines and on reddit.

Shitty person award goes toooooo you!

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Way to be super invalidating to someone who is having a hard time over the holidays. Shitty people like you are the reason people don't seek help and live in silent shame instead.

Fuck off.

Holy shit, I am sorry to hear about your dad. Does he think it's supposed to be a quick cure? I've been dealing with depression (and social anxieties, and probably ADHD) on-and-off for years, and even six months after finally getting formally diagnosed and starting serious cognitive therapy and medication it still gets to me sometimes. Depression is something that gets bone-deep into you, and uses your own mind to fight even the possibility of getting help, let alone shaking it off. It's nasty shit.

I agree with you that Optimus Prime would be ready to help and encourage you any way he can. But for now, I'll do my best as a stranger across the Internet to tell you you're not alone, you're doing fine just to acknowledge and seek help for this, and keep fighting the good fight.
