My "writing" is so awful that I'll never do as well you will, anon.

I actually enjoyed that show. It had way too much strange fanservice, but I liked the idea.

I've never heard of Elfen Lied.

Is it about elves singing folk songs in German? Please say it is.

Sure, baby, sure.

Ha ha, nope. It's about women who have bone ears/horns growing out of their heads that give them telekinetic powers, something some shady government agency is interested in, and the government usually finds them because they horrifically murder their families as a side effect of the bone ears.

that's all secondary, everyone knows the real plot is the harem hijinks with incestual overtones

It's named after a poem. It's not a great poem....

Oh man, I remember I read that manga because it was recced to me by someone I thought had good taste... Turns out I thought wrong.

Elfen Lied is a classic example of "great premise, terrible execution". It's basically what would happen if Mark Millar and Ken Akamatsu got really, really drunk and wrote a shitty X-Men fanfic together, then pulled a 50 Shades of Grey and published it as original fiction.

I'm amazed a manga of that art quality made it to anime but Japan loves its dark and edgey shit.
