In my building, they are fire doors. So if a fire breaks out it doesn't flash through the entire building, and also they allow secure evacuation routes. So many people say "but there isn't a fire", then I ask them if they know when a fire is scheduled, and point out the east wing almost burnt to the ground last year and that it was only a series of closed fire doors that prevented and contained it. Ten minutes later the fucking door is propped open again though. How has our species not gone extinct through our own stupidity yet!?

We don't have fire doors, but we tend to have a lot of rubbish piled in front of the fire alarms, right under the signs saying DO NOT BLOCK ALARM. I don't even try to deal with that, so long as it's not in a building I work in.
