Yes yes yes this. A badly written character is a badly written character. Unless you're going to do it well, just don't do it. Also POCs just not existing because of setting reasons is better than them being awkwardly shoehorned in and then everyone watching just takes everything they do as some weird meta statement on race. Godddd I just want to enjoy shows sometimes without dealing with that rubbish. If I want shows full of POC I can actually just watch foreign programming (WHICH I DO).

I mean I get the whole 'look if the setting is present day and diverse, it looks really weird when the main cast is all like precisely one type of person with minor variations' and the problematic aspects of that make sense to me. But SHOEHORNING THE TOKEN SPARKLY MINOR RACE OR SEXUALITY in doesn't actually fix the problem because what happens is that they end up being defined ALMOST ENTIRELY by their race or whatever which is just a big huge no. It's better to me if it's just not addressed, you can just be like 'yes we see that's a question, but it's not one we're aiming to tackle at this point in time'. I'd be totally cool with that!
