They are adorable. But they are also fierce. They don't have the breed in the US. They are prized in Asia because they have a really loud bark and make really good guard dogs even though they aren't very big.

They are fiercely loyal and protective too. There was this one time where we were coming back to the US for a year and someone was watching the one we had at the time for us. I slept over the first night to help him get used to the place, and he spent the entire night guarding me and snarling at anyone who came near.

Japanese Spitz are in the US????? It's not an AKC registered breed but there are definitely breeders and clubs for them.

I will have to look in this when I'm in my own apartment and can afford a dog.
