but hitchcock, tho

The Hitchcock version altered the ending and characters a bit. I prefer something more faithful to the book.

I already had a Jeremy Brett crush from the Granada version of Sherlock Holmes, but this sealed the deal. Except for the 'stache.

I have never seen either of these newer versions, only the Hitchcock one. Which is better?

They both have their moments. The 1979 version looks a bit dated, though some of the period clothing is lovely. The actress playing the heroine is... not very good. She's somewhat wooden, to be honest.

Charles Dance is great in the 1997 version, but he's a little bit old for the part, as I believe Maxim is supposed to be in his 30s. I'd go for this one unless you have a particular fondness for Jeremy Brett.

For me, I love the Hitchcock (despite the changes, due to Hays Code at the time), and the Musical one (that one was brilliant, despite it being sung in German). I've never saw the 1979 and 1997 versions.

Forever the best version will be this though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tr59DKnFKx0
"Listen up, you limey bastar. You're in Hollywood now. And in Hollywood, if you go and see a film called Rebecca, there'd better be a dame called Rebecca in it, got it?"
