Has anyone else had a crush on someone due to some relation - perceived or intentional - to fandom or just something they really like?

This guy was drawing fanart. Among other things, it really caught my interest. It didn't work out, but we're still good friends many years later. :)

No, but I've had things that worked the other way round.

I don't picture regular people behind the computer when I'm talking to them on the internet, I picture whatever they're using as their avatar/profile picture. So if someone has a photo of a baked potato, I picture a baked potato typing on the keyboard. Makes absolutely no sense but I've done that since I was 12. :I

What if there are two people in the icon?

Like would I be Emma? Or John Steed? Or would I be some strange hybrid combo of the two?

I think a lot of people do this. I sort of do it but not to that extent.

There is merit to that though. I am literally a stick man on a slope.

I don't know if this counts but the reason I got close to my current girlfriend is because I told her she reminded me of a character and we decided to do a cosplay together. In the process of planning the cosplay and whatnot we became way better friends then we... became More Than Friends.

I used to have an enormous crush on Ira Glass. I imagined that he was in his early thirties and wore a blue cashmere sweater with dark jeans and Italian leather loafers and that he has dark girl hair and black plastic glasses. I was just in love with his voice and his show and built an elaborate fantasy based on both.

The real thing is not quite the fantasy. I got the glasses mostly right. LOL

It just happened to me this weekend... I was at a con where I met a fairly hot cosplayer of one of my favorite characters who was really nice and, bam, instant crush. I'm hoping it's just my brain still conflating him with his cosplay and I'll get over it soon.

I rarely am attracted to anyone, but there were at least two coworkers I was attracted to because they looked like Power Rangers and we're predominantly wearing one color.

Not usually. I have a bit of crush on a guy who asked me if I was into webcomics, and I made fun of him for liking Girl Genius. But jfc he reads Girl Genius and is a casual nerd who is casual about it. Having a hint of French Canadian accent helps. (mostly I just wanna be his friend, so it's more of a squish).

There was also this one girl in high school, and suddenly I was crushing hard on her because she lent me an Anita Blake novel (and lent me more when I liked it). Probably the first time I had a fandom acquaintance irl?

I directed a fandom musical once, and I had a very brief crush on the guy that played my favorite character. Part of it probably had to do with the fact that we spent a lot of time working very closely, 'cause he needed a lot of help with his character.
So I had this moment of "!!!" and then was like WAIT. NO.

I've had a couple of crushes on guys I knew who physically resembled celebrities I also had crushes on.
