I know, I agree with you completely. A lot of people are really weird about what fandom is "allowed" to do with the Koopalings, though...which is kind of sad, considering the lack of really good Koopaling fanfiction over on ff.net. You'd think people would be happy with whatever they could get :\

By the way, I LOVE your icon XDDDDD

A lot of fandoms are like that, they have a character or pairing or group of characters where certain things aren't "allowed". Which is retarded because if slash or incest or alternate pairings or writing a character a certain way were "not allowed" the creators themselves would've said something a long time ago.

My issue is the contradicting canons. I prefer the cartoon personalities because I grew up on them, but I like the game-names better. And then there's the whole age thing. @_@

God I cannot tell you how much I agree with you on that.

Another thing that irritates me, though, is the fact that there's so little character development in the games for them, and yet very specific characterizations seem to be ideal for them in fanfiction (some of which line up with the cartoons, some which do not...Ludwig speaks with a German accent? What??). It gets annoying after a while. I'd rather read them with their cartoon personalities or with completely fresh and original personalities than with the stupid personalities that fandom has given them.

It seems to be a futile battle. If there were in-game character development, it'd solve a lot of problems!

I admit to having slipped a little fanon into a gameverse!Koopa fic I wrote a while back (Roy beating up Morton), but...eh, it was only one line.

I actually like German!Ludwig, but only because I love German accents. XD And Bully's Brooklyn accent in the cartoons. But somehow I always pictured Lemmy as being more "lol dork" than "stupid". Also, Cheatsy > Larry, IMO.

(The only place I don't have trouble deciding is Wendy vs Kootie-Pie since not too much has changed there XD)

I read this one fic's disclaimer complaining that Roy is always portrayed as heartless and people forget Morton and Iggy exist. I think Roy is just rough and likes feeling big and badass but genuinely cares about his siblings and father in a way, Iggy is...a nerd lol, and I always remember Big Mouth before I remember Morton. XD

Unfortunately, the Koopalings have been phased out in favor of Bowser Jr. D:

I loved Bully's Brooklyn accent. It was kind of ironic, considering Mario and Luigi were actually FROM Brooklyn. XD

I agree with you completely about Roy. And I think I love Big Mouth and Morton the same...Morton's castle was always my favorite in Super Mario World, and the only beef I've ever had with Big Mouth is not being too fond of his character design. His head was huge and his body was too skinny...! In the official art, Morton is at least as big as Roy and Ludwig, if not bigger.

The first time I watched the cartoons after like, 12 years I was like "woah I don't remember him having that accent!".

The more I think about it, the more I think "Mario and Luigi are from Brooklyn" was mainly a cartoon and comic thing. They were shown as babies in the Mushroom Kingdom in SML2, and in game canon they have Italian accents.

Morton's been described as big, but not as effective as Roy and Ludwig. And not good at anything other than talking on and on and on. XD His castle was one of the easier ones...I think I hated Lemmy's the most. @_@ Damn magikoopas!

I've yet to play any games with him in them and I'm in no hurry to do so. I gotta wonder how the other seven feel about suddenly being replaced. Mario's origin is questionable. He's been from Brooklyn, Italy, and the Mushroom Kingdom...who knows for sure? Another problem with contradicting canons.

The only game I've played with Bowser Jr. in it was Super Mario Sunshine, in which they completely raped Bowser with a horrible, horrible voice. *shudders*

Poor Koopalings. Like Bowser needed an eighth motherless child, anyway. XD

Then there's the "Mario and Luigi are twins" thing...somehow I'm only just beginning to realize not all twins neccessarily STAY identical. XD Luigi coulda had a major growth spurt that never reached Mario, and has a faster metabolism. So I can buy that.

Yeah, really. XD (Speaking of motherless, I also subscribe to the "there was a Queen of the Koopas at one time" theory. The fic I mentioned earlier? That actually explores how Wendy might feel spending the bulk of her years surrounded by males.)

They could very well be twins, with Mario just having been born first, and therefore the "older" brother.

I'm all for "once upon a time, the Koopalings had a mother", too. How else would they have been born? Spores??

Read it. Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed it. Poor Wendy...very believable, I think she'd probably feel lonely, too, but at the same time she'd be at least semi-happy with what she had. She IS tough, after all. :)

Yay! :D You're welcome. I'm rather fond of the 'even her diary didn't know' line. XD I like to imagine whenever she gets lonely or upset she comforts herself with 'well, I'm Daddy's favorite cause I'm his only girl!'.

It was a gag line in someone's MSTing, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's an actual theory.
