It honestly took me a while to figure out who that comparison was meant to insult.

In any case... it's not an entirely wrong comparison, but who cares? It's just as bad to like the Sex Pistols as it is to like the Backstreet Boys. It's just as much a problem as it is with the Backstreet Boys. In other words, it's not a problem at all.
