read what you just quoted. they're talking about writing canon characters as trans, not just about writing trans characters in general. that's what they said with their words.

"writing a character as trans" has a very different implication from "writing a trans character." phrasing matters.

It certainly doesn't imply anything about "...because they have short hair and I want brownie points/wank material".

"They're very obviously referring to the people who declare things like "such-and-such character has short hair and always wears pants so she's totally a trans guy!" and then writes fic about that."

You were wrong, though. Just admit that you were wrong, that you read that into the secret because that isn't as blatantly hateful as what was actually said.
