I...really don't get this. It's a descriptor. I wouldn't get any more pissy about people labeling me "cis" (which I am) than I would about them calling me white, female, slightly-shorter-than-average, or a young adult. Those are all accurate descriptors of myself.

Now if someone actually unironically said "die cis scum!" to me I'd be upset, but that's because that's a douchey thing to say, not because they called me cis.

The problem I have with it is I had never heard of it until a couple of years ago and never outside of Tumblr and all I initially saw was it used as an insult. So I can't help have a reflexive fuck you when someone uses it. Especially when it was often used by the same people who were whining about people not immediately using the correct term they had for themselves (because we're not mind readers). I don't know why I hate it that much because it doesn't technically apply to me though it might seem to on the surface (assumptions people!), I guess I just don't like the current obsessive need to label everyone into their own restrictive groups.

It sucks that you first saw the term used on tumblr. We're at a point where people are becoming more and more aware of trans issues and the word "cis" is just part of defining gender. It literally just means "not trans" or "identifying with the gender you were assigned at birth". The actual meaning of the word isn't an insult. People on tumblr will use anything as an insult, though, tbh. :/
