what if I think he's a bad fit for the character of Doctor Strange as I understand him

does that pass your strawmanny restrictions

NAYRT. Could you elaborate?

Making assumptions based on personal experience is not creating a strawman.

This is a strawman:
Person A: I believe that men and women should be treated equally.
Person B: I think you're wrong, because it's not right to subjugate men.

Person A isn't arguing that men should be subjugated, but Person B has chosen to argue against that position instead, because it's easier for him or her.

This is NOT a strawman:
Person A: I don't think Benedict Cumberbatch should be Doctor Strange. This is a secret for obvious reasons.
Person B: What reasons do you have for keeping it secret? Most of fandom seems to agree with you (*reasons person B has seen for fandom not wanting Benedict Cumberbatch to be Doctor Strange*).

Person B is arguing against Person A's actual position, which is that Person A needs to keep his or her feelings on Cumberbatch's casting secret. The stuff in the parentheses is just an irrelevant aside.
