I watched Alias. Sound and flash without plan or direction. JJ Abrams is a dumb writer, who'd probably be better off doing music videos.

You're not wrong. Abrams is terrible. He made a complete mess of Star Trek. The first couple of seasons of Alias were pretty good though.

I loved it until I could see that it was going nowhere. He likes the buildup to mystery but can't resolve the mystery. Seriously, he's a music video level writer.

This is such a perfect description of him. Genius.

I wish he and Moffat would get together and make something convoluted and rambling together. I bet as a team they could really streamline the process of sucking the soul out of a beloved franchise.

Maybe they could include J. Mallozzi, to really kill it off.

OP

Well, he definitely dropped the (red, semisolid doom) ball on the third season cliffhanger.

There was a lot of loopy, nonsensical stuff which didn't go anywhere and made me wonder what the writers were smoking, but there were some good characters, good character interactions, and funny stuff.

The acting on Alias was top notch. Jennifer Garner et al breathed life into some fantastic characters.

"music video" anon here.

Oh, no, Jen Garner, Michael Vartan, Victor Garber--I liked them. I liked some of the set design and photography. I liked the first episode a lot. I just grew tired of the writing, and the nonsense that passed for science fiction in it.

What was with the "page 47" references?

47? I blame the same source as all the 47s in Star Trek TNG.

So much. One of my favorite shows just for that.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
are you serious that show is amazing and so was his felicity and even lost
he's actually better as a writer than as a director.

though, JJ has the habit of starting good tv-shows with his ideas and genius but then he abandons them to people who are not able to take the responsibility and do a good job.
