I don't understand all those posts and gif sets about how they should have cast *this or that person of color*. As far as I remember, Dr. Strange has always been an arrogant white guy who ended up studying mystic arts somewhere in the Himalayas.

His parents are Eugene and Beverly from Nebraska. I can't think of whiter names OR a whiter state. Even today Nebraska is 86% white.

DA

I was going to say the actor of color thing, then I looked up the original comic. But if there had been an actor of color who had auditioned (let's say a guy of Pakistani heritage) and performed better than Cumberbatch and they only picked the latter due to his name, image and the money he's bring in, then that's messed up [but how the world works]. This is provided they even screened for actors of color, because when the release the casting to agents, they usually have a particular look in mind (i.e. blonde, tall, etc.)

wtf do pakistani people have to do with it?

AYRT

Nothing, I was giving an example. I could have easily said Mexican, Ecuadorian, Bengali, Nigerian. I just chose that particular nation.

I was pulling for Jason Momoa because Jason Momoa is hot as fuck.

He is gorgeous, isn't he. The images I've seen of Strange aren't that muscled, but I'm not sure I'd care because Mamoa is enjoyable to watch in anything.

Seriously. I really need to watch Wolves, I don't care how terrible it is.

I haven't seen that. I did see the crappy Conan adaption though just for him. Twice. Give me a man with muscle and some nice hair and I'm content to watch even the worst movie.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Whoa. That film was bad. And you watched it twice? I feel I must applaud your devotion to Momoa!

It conveniently came out right after a stressful exam week when all I wanted was to look at something pretty. It was really bad, but he was half naked. I'm easily persuaded by male nudity.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I will give you that; his physique was probably the best (only?) thing the film had going for it. So probably a good de-stressor for you after exams!

Have seen, it's incredibly terrible, but Momoa is still a sinister salt-and-pepper stone fox in it.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
YES.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't he going to be Aquaman?

[personal profile] nanslice 2014-12-12 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, which I have to admit I think is a pretty strange casting decision but hey. Jason Momoa. I'm okay with it.

DA

But his eyebrows are Dr. Strange MATERIAL!!!

[personal profile] nanslice 2014-12-12 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
You are so correct. His eyebrows are PERFECT for Dr. Strange. ;;;

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know much about Aquaman, but I'm assuming he's going to be spending a lot of time without his shirt on, so there's that...

We're definitely of the same mindset, nonny.

That would be consistent with the character, yes.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Makes me afraid that they're going for a "savage king of a barbaric culture" thing for Aquaman and the Atlanteans, which is both self-evidently stupid and probably very much in line with Zack Snyder's vision.

[personal profile] nanslice 2014-12-12 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, you could be right. :\

(Anonymous) 2014-12-12 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Fingers crossed they'll just be moving Atlantis next to Hawaii.
