Same anon. A lot of those joke websites or meme websites put their own watermarks on whatever they find online. I hate seeing it because they NEVER ask permission when they do it. It's happened to a few art pieces of mine.

I'm pretty relaxed about people sharing my art for anything non profit, I just ask for a link and for credit, I don't even usually care if people ask for permission. But the watermark thing bothers me. And I know there are some comic artists who take issue with meme sites not crediting because their comics will get TONS of traffic but like... none of that traffic ends up going back to the original comic artist. It's a real issue too when you consider that for independent artists more traffic = more job opportunities (whenever I get a bump in popularity this is how it works for me anyway, so even if something is fanart it can lead to me doing original work for a job.)

OP. That's just so wrong.

I've even stopped reblogging stuff where the source is credited as someone's personal tumblr (well, I'm trying; it's really difficult because everyone does that now). The thirst for notes over crediting authors/artists is ridiculous and I refuse to participate in it, even if I'm the last person on that stupid site who credits anything.
