What's the difference between IP logging being on and off? Nobody sees it but case.

People are just paranoid, because it's supposed to be a "secrets" website. So, they think that they'll be identified somehow. It's irrational paranoia.

There are things people say that they don't want Case to link back to them personally. It is the same reason why people go to a priest in a another parish when they have to confess something really bad, even though every priest is sworn to secrecy, it is still something you do not wish them knowing. Same principle at work.

There is also a concern, actually stated by Case himself, that the stored IP information could be a security problem (that is why Case will not authorize anyone else taking over the comm, or becoming a mod). You can spin that as many ways as you like, but once the Mod says it is a security issue then there is no reason to take anyone who claims otherwise seriously. Especially when all they have for counter-arguments is reductio ad absurdum and mockery.
