I used to watch it years ago to see if I could figure out plausible reasons for the evidence they found.

Like one time they were in this abandoned military fort island where they found "evidence" of a heat signature on a stone bench in an empty room on the grounds. The heat signature was strong on the bench and became lighter and lighter as it trailed off across the ground into the yard. They were going on how this was proof of something supernatural. But, here's the thing, not ten minutes earlier with another group across the yard, one of the members came across a stray cat. The cat was just roaming about. And then it made sense about the heat signature on the bench. The cat had been lying on it for a while, warming it up, however it left leaving its heated paw prints behind on the ground. But because it had been on bench longer, the heat signature was stronger there.

I was sure someone on the team would have been two and two together and came up with same reason as I did. But they didn't. Oh, well.

Still it was fun going, "No. There's not an orb. It's pollen season and you are outside! That's what you are seeing." And coming up with other ideas.

Honestly, most shows that claim to have a scientific approach don't, really. They sort of go through the motions enough to satisfy the average viewer, but they're very careful to stay away from obvious answers, like your stray cat example. I watched an episode once where they were in a building with an attic that had a hole in the roof and flipped out that they saw a dark shape flying around. Yeah, you disturbed an owl, congratulations.

I lived in an old house that had a bat hibernating in the attic. It took us quite a while to get it to fly out. Also, there were squirrels hiding in the walls. I can't tell you how stupidly haunted that house sounded every time there was a loud noise that startled them.

Yeah, I saw one where they were all OMG OMG OMG WHAT WAS THAT NOISE?

Barn owl. Sure, they sound creepy, but...that's just the sound they make. Screep.
