One of my favourite areas of historical study is the ghost story or theories of the afterlife so a few years ago I was addicted to shows like Most Haunted because of the stories. I never believed any of the shit that (allegedly) occurred so found the physical evidence of a ghost side of things hilarious. Still, it got me through a period of insomnia because it meant I had something to watch for hours and hours on Sky Living in the early hours!
As others have said, wouldn't surprise me if most of the audience was watching it from a cynicism/for the lulz POV.
EDIT: Also I want to say I totally get why some may disagree with my "nope, not real" view. I get really vivid sleep paralysis episodes and sure, for some other people I can accept that feels like a supernatural thing. For me I just know it's my brain being an arsehole.
