The only thing I can think of right now is Happy Endings. Back when it was first being advertised it looked like a really dumb stereotypical comedy, but when I actually sat down and watched it the humor was not like the previews at all. It became one of my favorite tv comedies of the time (RIP though, since it got cancelled like every other show I love.)

TV comedies are dangerous to watch the first season. All shows are, but comedies seem to be more likely to have the plug pulled on them early.

True. Especially on network television. I also seem to have a sense of humor that doesn't fall in line with the mass public, so most stuff I like will only survive if it has *just enough* of a following to keep it going or if it's on cable where you don't need the huge fanbase (though even then some things still get the boot like Party Down or Dead like Me.)
