Baccano. Going into it, the only information I really had was that it was an anime set in New York and it involved the mafia in some way (I didn't know about the immortality part even though that's a major aspect). My expectations weren't very high based solely on that information, but I loved it. The characters were great, the organization of the story lines was interesting, and the plot was very engaging. Even the dub was fantastic.
