especially since it doesn't have the same writing team that made ALA so great

I...what? I have no idea what you're saying here, they created both shows. And I just checked, all of the LoK writers also wrote for AtLA.

With AtLA, there were ten writers, all overseen by Aaron Ehasz and Bryke. Book 1 of LoK had just Bryke. After getting the greenlight for three more seasons, they brought in Tim Hedrick and Joshua Hamilton. So there's a big difference between the writing on both shows.
