Yeah, I learned that the hard way as well. I've had a couple of fandom-based friendships completely blow up in my face, so it's best just to keep fandom people as acquaintances and not to expect much more.

There's an illusion of instant connection between people on the internet. Unfortunately, it often doesn't last.

It's still nice to have so many potential acquaintances out there, all having similar interests to you. That's pretty awesome, in fact.
