I think Bayonetta is an interesting picture choice, because I've heard is described as the sort of sexual female protagonist that is sexy, but actually intimidates men who play the game, rather than being a victim of objectification.

I do not oppose sexuality in media in general. Even blatant sexuality - but it's good to be aware of the tropes and know why people criticize things. And as it is, female sexualization in media vastly outnumbers male sexualization - and when it happens, it happens in different ways - where men who are sexy are presented more as powerful and competent, and women as objects whose hearts should be won over.

Yeah, that whole thing about men being intimidated by a sexy woman? Is complete and utter bullshit. What does occasionally happen with Bayonetta is that men will say she's gross and unattractive because her legs are stilts.

People in general say a lot of bullshit. Doesn't mean no man ever gets intimidated by women.

You seriously don't think men aren't intimidated by sexy and confident women? There are a lot of men who have a fetish for submissive women because they feel like they are in control, but when the women is the one in control it's a different story.

Oh yeah? try watching some let's plays, or simply read some reviews. "uncomfortable" is probably the word most associated with bayonetta when men play it.

I feel like you haven't spent too much time around men.

I have heard things like that too, like she eats tiny lollipops in a way that says to men "your dick is too small."
At least that's what I remeber from a thing I read. That she's designed to be sexy in a "touch without my approval and you die" way.

I've heard friends of my bf talk about it like that - don't hear that much about other video game stars

How can you eat a lollipop in a way that says "your dick is too small"? If it was too small, she wouldn't eat the lollipop at all.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-16 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"This tiny lollipop is obviously bigger and more enjoyable than your dick?"

(Anonymous) 2014-12-16 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
There are some unfortunate men for whom that's true, but ordinary short-dicks aren't going to get that message unless they WANT to.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-16 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Most Western men have had it pounded in their heads since childhood that they should be insecure about their dick size. Even guys who are of average or above-average length tend to fear that they're too small.

Yeah, Bayonetta is pretty tongue-in-cheek about it. They did, however, have a disgusting, unnecessary male character who, despite claiming to hate Bayonetta for ~killing his daddy~, wouldn't have any qualms to fucking her should he get the chance.

Also, despite the obviously long legs and how tall they make her seem, especially when you compare her height to that of a child she meets, she's still shorter than said dude because of course she is. Other than that, though, the game had a good plot and could arguably be femslash-y in the end. Had a giant ass plot hole that should have meant the dude wouldn't have existed, but I'll take what I can get.
