Coincidentally, I am watching Labyrinth tonight for the first time ever. It is not what I was expecting.

According to the fic, Labyrinth is all gloomy with dangerously sexual overtones and David Bowie as the ultimate dreamlike sexual predator. The movie itself is pretty funny. Puppet goblins! Bowie breaking into song and dance for no reason! Glitter everywhere!

I've never been so amazed at the disconnect between a movie and a fandom.

Yeah. Fandom generally likes a darker, more adult take on that universe in fanfic. So it's more like the ballroom scene on steroids, with a Sarah who isn't a minor. There are fics that address the humorous side, but there aren't as many of them and they're not as popular.

One fanwork that I really think captures the spirit of the movie is a webcomic by the name of "Girls Next Door" by Pika-la-cynique. Yes, there are darker, more dramatic moments, but by and large it's a gag comic with some surprisingly touching moments.

Be forewarned, though, it may drag you into other fandoms by proxy. :)
