Yes. I agree. This is especially annoying because it doesn't accomplish anything and I find it personally insulting when people try to claim criticism of a female character, in and of itself, is misogyny. It implies that women are all the same and that the only reason you can dislike a woman is BECAUSE she's a woman. Which is just demeaning.

Also, sometimes female characters aren't well utilized in the story -- which is worth discussing. Or they have flaws that could be explored.

Yeah. There's also something to be said for female characters who who are well written enough that she can evoke feelings of anger and disgust, which in my eyes is wonderful - if it evokes any strong feelings, it must be a good character. I wish there was more appreciation for characters like this so that you can hate the person that's being written about, but appreciate how well written they are. The fact that people shit on this sort of opinion while in the same breath saying that they want good female antagonists annoys me like none other, but that's neither here nor there...

On the other hand there are female characters who are poorly written, boring, and otherwise unpleasant to watch or to read about, and I don't think there's a problem with saying you hate them and want them to die/otherwise leave the show so that you don't have to watch them. I think the fact that so many people think this about female characters says more about the writers and how lazy they get when it comes to writing women than it does about fans who don't like or otherwise want to see a poorly written character.

Except that there are a lot of female characters who are only the target of "anger and disgust" because they are a threat to the fandom's ship of choice.
