This does happen, but what also happens is fans saying "certain popular reasons for hating this female character are very similar to misogynist tropes" or "female characters tend to be judged more harshly; there are lots of male characters with the same traits who are loved" and then people go "how dare you call me personally a misogynist!" Both of these things are annoying.

This.

Or, in other words, the Internet fucking sucks sometimes

This. Especially the second part. There are so many shows where the male characters are loved, but the female characters who do the same things are hated. (Supernatural springs to mind off the top of my head.) I'm not saying that everyone who hates a female character is doing so misogynistic reasons. But if you like one character but hate another and the main difference is that one is male and one is female, I don't think it is unreasonable to think to maybe take a look at that and wonder why.

After a while it gets very disingenuous because how many hated male characters do people have to pull up before they're allowed to dislike female characters who are also hateable?

That reminds me of the one time I mentioned that I hate Cersei for the stuff she does/did, but thought her character is interesting.
Suddenly I got swarmed by people who explained me her entire story and how dare I when Jaime was at least as bad or worse, when I had never mentioned Jaime and also pointed out, that I hated him too. They kept rambling on about it.
It was a weird day.
