Why would you like that she got away with it in the end?

nayrt, but I think it would have been a lot more satisfying emotionally. Not in a "this is a good person who should be rewarded" way, but in a "she's smart enough that it makes more sense for her to win" way. There aren't enough stories where the villain does get away with their actions without getting de-villainized in the process, and I definitely think it's an interesting kind of narrative.

But then there probably would be a lot of people unable to see the difference between fiction and reality accusing the author of endorsing Amy's behaviour (rather than just, you know, writing about it), so I'm not surprised she didn't go that way.

I get how it's good that she's a unique female villain who gets away with it, but I wish they would have devised another plot method to keep her out of jail and force Nick to stay. I guess I just feel it crosses a line when she gets pregnant with his stored sperm. Because it's one thing if they want to play these shitty games by themselves, but bringing a baby into all that mess is a terrible way to end it and made me hate the book and movie.

I don't think the author is supporting it, I just think she ended it badly because there had to been other ways to resolve this. And especially given that Amy's character is made into a heroine of sorts by the fandom, and the author didn't want to punish her or kill her off... I just think resolving this with a baby sent the wrong message, and the author doesn't even see how this is what mde people hate the book.

I dont know if they showed this in the film, but in the book it was a moment where we see exactly how weak and hypocritical and egotistical Nick is. He's planning on handing her over to the police or killing her one moment, and the next she's pregnant with his child so he's planning on making a go of it because he wants a kid and a 'happy family'. That poor child.

They're both immensely fucked up people.

Yeah they are both first class fucked up. That's why it's so bad a kids brought into it. He says "happy family" but that can never happen. They will always play these games and that child will be miserable in the middle of it. I just wish the author had used some other plot device rather than having a kid.
