I'm not sure that's an unpopular opinion. Consider the term "Mary Sue", for example.

AYRT in my fandom everyone's Tumblr'd up to the eyeballs and so writes sanitised versions of the (canonically asshole) characters who are loving and kind and considerate of every label you can imagine.
