It only riles my feathers when the cheating is shown as "they couldn't help themselves" or the prior relationship is shown as an obstacle to true love. And no, demonizing the cheated upon party doesn't work.

If the cheating is bad, and the narrative acknowledges they're assholes for doing it, then I'm down.

Agreed.

I've read so many fics where the previous relationship was handwaved, because the new person was their one true love, which meant anything was justified in getting there. It's rather skeevy, and I'm not even particularly annoyed by cheating in fics, unlike some.

I just can't respect any character who behaves like that. And then the writer expects me to feel happy for the new couple, and have my heart warmed by their romance? Not likely.

I have a pretty low tolerance for most plots that use love as a justification for people being assholes, which can include cheating but also stuff like being a jerkass to love interest's current partner, being a hindrance in a workplace/procedural by bringing their baggage into it all the time, or even lashing out to love interest him or herself out of displacement/frustration whatever. Maybe I'm a cold fish, but I just have very little patience for plots centered around people in looooove being "allowed" to be jerks because of it.

One of the reasons I jumped the Harry/Hermione ship was because of all the fix-fics for the epilogue doing this.

The worst one tried to act like Harry had the moral high ground because, unlike the "slutty" Ginny, he only did it out of twu soulmatey wuw! Except there was nothing keeping him in the marriage, not even the kids who got all of two sentences of consideration before he decided they didn't matter because TWU WUV. (Not sure if it was the same where he decided he never loved them because Ginny gave birth to them.)
