Really? I feel like cheating is seen as nbd in most fandoms.

The opposite: I find more people want to be warned for cheating in their fics than for murder. Which is understandable, as cheating is more common.

Ever since this was explained to me, I not only warn for cheating in my own fics, but also in recs.

I think that depends on where the cheating is happening. To use a slash example, because that's what I'm most familiar with, cheating within the juggernaut slash OTP is bad. However, one character cheating on girlfriend to be with the slash OTP is good, because the endgame is the OTP.

Obviously, this will vary in different scenarios, but if you're talking about a popular fan pairing, whether it's a big deal or not probably depends on who is cheating on whom.
