Sony hacking scandal

(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I think Sony was fucking chickenshit for pulling the plug on The Interview in theaters, and saying it would never see the light of DVD/Blu-ray, VOD, or Netflix either.

North Korea, terrorism, and censorship won huge battles today.

Yeah, I wish they'd at least let it on video-on-demand.

On the other hand I don't expect Sony to give a shit about any political standing if it was going to hurt them in the long run. It isn't even about protecting people in theaters, they just don't want to get hacked anymore.

Sony needs to get better security. Infect the hackers with something worse than Cryptolocker until they fuck off.

They should just leak their own movie online. That thing would probably become the number one most downloaded movie within minutes.

Wait, didn't they pull it in response after several theater chains said they weren't going to show it? Which I can understand them doing. The rest, not so much.

They left it up to the theaters on whether it would be shown or not. I figured they wanted to wash their hands of the responsibility so they don't get sued/blamed if a theater did get attacked.

I swear, what do you expect of a soulless corporation? That they'd be the forerunners of not giving into terrorists and cherishing freedom of speech? They're chickenshit and I hope their stocks take a swan dive while their movie is released online so it's on everyone's computers.

This. All of this.

I wanted to see this movie. I would have paid admission to a theater and bought popcorn and all that - along with a theater full of people like me who don't give a crap what some tin-hat dictator on the other side of the world is doing. Instead I'm going to pirate it. Like I'm now incredibly likely to do with any other Sony release I want to see. Fuck them.

It looked like a pretty lame movie imo, so it's not like I'd have paid to see it anyway. On the other hand, I get to be glad that once it leaks everyone will still be able to see it anyway. Likely boring Seth Rogen movie won't see a dime of it, but also lol NK.

I think it boiled down to insurance issues, not only at Sony, but also at the theater chains.

What I'd like to see them do is release it on the Internet, free! for the world! Up yours, North Korea. Gonna take down the Internet?
