People do not deserve to be killed for robbing stores

Fuck you, this is a terrible argument

Re: unpopular opinions BROWN

(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
He shouldn't have been robbing a store.

Re: unpopular opinions BROWN

(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I agree.

He shouldn't have been killed for it either. And it's absolutely appropriate to protest against that.

+1 jfc

not innocent of any crime ever =/= should be shot to death

Re: unpopular opinions BROWN

petty crimes do not under any western law in any american state or jurisdiction allow a police officer to use excessive force. what happened to mike brown was illegal and unjust. that is a statement of fact.

Summary execution for suspicion of shoplifting is a thing now, is it?

If you think that's an actual justification for killing someone your thinking is way fucked up.

What, we don't have the death penalty for shoplifting yet? Jesus, what's wrong with us people?

I get that this is effective rhetoric but just for my own sanity, you do understand, seperate from all the specifics of the case, that the suggestion by supporters is never 'he was killed due to the robbery and that's okay', it's 'he was killed because he tried to attack a cop and go for their gun - to which they defended themselves against deadly force'.

I mean there's plenty of criticisms you could make, so follow the ones which aren't twitter style zingers.

Re: unpopular opinions BROWN

(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
no the robbery is relevant, because people DO say that the robbery rendered mike brown a thug and therefore he deserved to die. even when you have the storekeeper insisting that mike brown did not rob his store.

AYRT

Like

my post was literally in response to someone saying that people shouldn't protest Brown's death because he was robbing a store

so I would suggest that there's evidence that at least some supporters are saying "he was killed due to the robbery and that's okay" in the sense that this is literally what the fucking post I was responding to was fucking saying you fucking ass

That's a pretty unusual reading of that post captain literacy, lord of reading comprehension.

The op literally says that the cop showed up because he was called for the store robbery: "The cops wouldn't have been called on him if he wasn't breaking the law. He wasn't innocent." You check your reading comprehension.

The day that the jury made their decision, my father-in-law opined that Brown deserved to die because the eighth commandment is "thou shalt not steal." When pressed, he said that Brown is dead, and justly so, because he stole.

Like, I get what you're trying to say, but unfortunately, "the suggestion by supporters is never 'he was killed due to the robbery and that's okay'" is not at all a true statement.

Yeeeeah. I said to him that the Bible doesn't say people should be killed for stealing, and that his view rather goes against the message of the NT, but he brushed me off.

My FIL is a very angry and hateful man.

I thought he was shot because he charged at the officer? Seems pretty dumb to me.

The star witness who corroborated that claim apparently has a history of fabricating such stories for attention.

Read the actual testimony. There were MULTIPLE witnesses who agreed with that claim.

Re: unpopular opinions BROWN

There are plenty of things people don't deserve, but sometimes poor decisions have horrible consequences and Brown made several poor decisions in a row. His behavior was a big factor in how this situation turned out.

Re: unpopular opinions BROWN

(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
I accept that. I also think that in no way means he deserved it, and it in no way diminishes the validity of the protests.
