Well, I have a very minimal knowledge on US Criminal Law. But I feel that every death should be investigated. Ideally, that is.

Maybe you mean to say indicted? If so I fully agree.

(Frankly I think that particular cop should have been charged too, but in general if you KILL SOMEONE you should go to court. IMNSHO.)

But court is expensive. So there should be an investigation and if the proof is enough, then the court. Police may cover for their collegues, so maybe some sort of independent committee? That is in general.
I agree with you in this particular case because I don't really follow the news so you have more info than me.

Well, people go to court for dumber things all the time. Our system needs a major overhaul and part of that is cutting out stupid laws that don't benefit anyone.

But anyway, I DEFINITELY think all police departments need independent oversight.
