Re: Dragon Age: Inquisition
(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 02:03 am (UTC)(link)I started my first playthrough on hard, and then switched up to nightmare about half-way through. Atm, I'm playing hard on the archer, but probably going to switch that up pretty quickly after I get my specialization. I might try one playthrough with friendly fire on, though I'll probably regret that pretty quickly, it was the only reason I didn't play nightmare on DA2.
I heard about the Dorian's personal quest. That seems to be mostly an issue for those who sided with the templars without doing the first part of the mage-quest (i.e. going to Redcliffe, talking to Alexius, meeting Dorian at the Chantry).
That makes me wonder if I missed some cut-scenes on my first play-through. I guess I won't know until it's fixed.
Well, I'm only on my second playthrough, so it's hard for me to say how many replays the maps will take for me. I probably won't ever do as complete playthrough as I did with my first, where I collected all the bottles and everything. I'll be having a friend come over for my third playthrough, so that should spice it up a bit.
I had the party banter bug for a while, and tried couple of fixes (some had better success than others). The latest patch fixed it for me.
Cole was fantastic, and heart-breaking, especially since I spent about 50 hours dragging him and Dorian around. Their conversations were such a delight.
I do agree that the cast was fantastic. They felt very thoroughly thought-out, and like they had their lives outside Inquisition/Inquisitor, and I really dug the personal quests.
This was the only Dragon Age -game where I didn't have a party set on stone (except for Dorian, had to take BF with me always), but kept switching it up quite a bit, since I really wanted to see all the character dynamics.
Re: Dragon Age: Inquisition
lol, if you try the game with friendly fire on I bet your option on the difficulty will change rather fast! Your companions will probably be more dangerous to your health than your enemies.
Hmm, IDK about everyone else, but I've sided with the mages both times; I got his quest on my first play-through and didn't on my second. It was disappointing, but I can only hope it works out next time. (Don't you need that quest to romance him? I can't remember, but of course it's incredibly important so it would be damn bizarre not to complete it.)
Having someone else sit in or help with your playthrough should be fun! I've never done that before, but I wouldn't be opposed. I hope you continue to like the open world maps.
People have so many different issues with this game, lol. I've heard some folks say the patch fixed the bug, but there are tons of others that are still having it. Mine wasn't terrible until I patched the game. So unlucky.
I always take my LI with me (unless, well, in the case of this game, they aren't part of the party) and switch the other two members up, which is why I'm looking forward to other playthroughs. At least once the banter is working again. I'm really excited to see how everyone who didn't get to interact much in my game get along and grow. (Especially more Varric and Cole, and Sera and Solas.)
Re: Dragon Age: Inquisition
(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 03:14 am (UTC)(link)I did play something like 2 hours on nightmare on DA2 (during Legacy DLC) and my party just kept on getting wiped, and I had no idea what was going on, until I realized that it was Sebastian who kept killing everyone else. In fact he kept one-shotting my tank. So yeah... Probably will regret that. But I'll try, I mean, I'll have to adjust builds for it, but re-speccing is so cheap I won't lose anything for trying.
I'm going to try templars this time, just out of curiosity, although I really loved the mage quest.
And yeah, you cannot start Dorian romance unless you reconcile him and his father. So that bug really sucks for everyone who wants to romance him. Super-glad I didn't get it.
It's very much fun. My first playthrough I played next to my friend on separate computers. He romanced Iron Bull with a dwarf warrior and I romanced Dorian with human mage, but other than that we played pretty same. It was still nice to have someone to talk to while playing. I recommend it 100%.
Yes, I've heard the horror stories. And my heart goes out to all the people who can't even play the game because of the amount of bugs. My biggest problem has been that trying to open Inquisition crashes my computer about 50% of the time, but other than that, I've been very very lucky.
It really does keep the romance alive, don't you think? Dragging your LI half-way across the country and occasionally into the Fade... It will be weird for me not have LI with me, when I someday get around romancing Josie or Cullen, but I guess that will just give me more party slots to shuffle.
Right now, I'm enjoying Solas and Iron Bull dynamics with my rogue, but Sera and Solas is something that I definitely need to get around to at some point as well, since they seem like they'd have really interesting conversations.
Re: Dragon Age: Inquisition
Fucking Sebastian. Why is this so amusing?
I want to try templars too, as I hear you get a cool new character that way. (Though the mage quest was great, and I quite liked the outcome. Switching things up is fun. I want a different Divine, too.)
:( Poop. Not that I could romance him with my female Inquisitor anyway (or would even want to), but I want to help Dorian every way I can; he's my bro! (...I still flirted with him though. Dorian is the best flirt.)
Awww, I romanced Iron Bull with a dwarf rogue! It was great, I wouldn't mind doing it again at some point. I'm going to romance Dorian with a sword and shield carrying elf (weird combo, I know), but I love hearing about other people's experiences. There are so many ways you can play these games.
50%?! Well, that's terrible. :/ I've had some crashes to desktop (pretty rare, but for a couple days), but other than that I've been pretty lucky as well.
It does! It's unthinkable for me to play without my LI. I've been doing it with my Cullen playthrough and it's weird and kind of lonely. I love Cullen so it's worth it, and it DOES mean you have more room for however else you're interested in, but it's sad. Oh so sad.
Bull and Solas have some great dialogue together! Bull and Vivienne are also surprisingly awesome together; they never fail to crack me up. Also, Bull and Blackwall. And basically Bull and everyone... Cole is great to have around too, again, especially if your LI is in your party. (Cole and Bull's conversations about the Inquisitor damn made near made me blush.) Sera and Solas I've only started using, but they are hilarious. (On that note, I hear Sera/Solas/Blackwall is even better.)
Re: Dragon Age: Inquisition
(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 04:08 am (UTC)(link)I am glad you find amusement in my miserable failure. Let me tell you, Explosive Shot was the worst. Blood everywhere. Everyone dead. Except Sebastian, who got maimed pretty quickly afterwards anyway.
I have seen pics of the cool new character. They look very cool. I hope they are as cool as they look.
I definitely want a different Divine too. I was aiming for Cassandra, but got hardened Leliana instead, which was bit of a bummer. On my second playthrough, I'm aiming for Vivienne.
I saw all the Iron Bull romance scenes. Mostly because we always paused our own games when there was a romance moment on other's game. It's not my kind of romance (as an asexual the BDSM sex aspect just doesn't do it for me), but I'm glad I saw it anyway. And it was entertaining to watch. Especially for my friend's reactions.
I do like that, at least with Dorian, there's different points where to start the romance. I didn't start mine right after the personal quest, but instead at the conversation with Mother Giselle where Dorian mentions that there's rumors going around about him and the Inquisitor. That whole scene was too cute to pass up. When you get around romancing Dorian I recommend at least checking the scene out.
If it crashes then I have to re-start my computer 1-3 times. But when I get it to open it works like a dream, so I ain't complaining.
I'm sure Cullen misses you as much as you miss him.
My friend's party was Bull, Vivienne and Cassandra/Cole for the most part of the game, so I've heard a lot of that banter as well. I completely agree on Vivienne and Bull. I'm sad I couldn't drag Vivienne with me on my first playthrough, since I had enough mages already, because I'd love to hear her and Dorian together. The few banters I did catch were pretty interesting.
I had Sera and Blackwall with me for a long stretch, and I did enjoy their banter a lot. Blackwall+Dorian is still probably my favorite combination. I had them with me so much that they ran out of banter.
Anyway, I seriously need to get to bed, since it's 6 AM here. It was a real pleasure talking with you. I'll be checking this thread in the morning err... day when I get up.
Re: Dragon Age: Inquisition
Oh goodness, I can just imagine Sebastian's face after he' inadvertently killed his entire party. It does bring me lots of joy to imagine him screaming in sadness or disbelief.
I was super confused about who to go with my first game! I ended up with softened (?) Leliana which was what I wanted. Cass was my second choice though, and I think she'll make a great Devine.
And I feel you on the Iron Bull romance. It did it for me but if you don't care about the sexual aspect of their relationship it probably won't be as interesting. There was def more to it than just sex, but there was a lot of sex!
Also, I totes tried that part of the Dorian romance before reloading because I'm weak and love Dorian. It was incredibly cute and I love his reaction to being flirted with. It's neat that you have multiple moments you can trigger the romance.
That sounds like a long, frustrating process. :( I guess at least it works? I feel really bad for the people who can't even start the game. That would be torturous.
I'm going to need to bring Blackwall and Dorian together! They were never in my party for long before, but given Blackwall's comment on Dorian I feel like they would have some interesting conversations. I've been bringing Dorian and Bull in my Cullen romance (since I know they start a relationship if you don't romance either of them) but everyone has been silent in this playthrough.
Sorry for the late reply, but it's been good talking to you as well! I've been itching to discuss this with someone for a while.
