Oh god. I LOVE that line. It is the ultimate in "I am a teenager who has no idea about this other place but I am going to assume is TOTALLY MORE AWESOME THAN WHERE I LIVE NOW!".

It drives me nuts. The musical makes the whole thing worse because it includes a song where she sings about how there's so much more space in the surface than in the ocean and I'm like, FUCK, ARIEL, the ocean makes up 3/4 of the entire planet and you're not restricted by gravity in the water, READ A BOOK.

To be fair, her father didn't like her going far. So it probably wasn't even literal space so much as room to BREATHE.
