I think it will hurt your mom's feelings to know she's been hurting your feelings all this time. As someone who probably doesn't have a lot of time left with her mother I wouldn't give her this guilt. She thinks it's a cute way to bond with you, please just go with it and treasure the fact that she relies on you and you have a geeky relationship.

I'm not sure fake!bonding with mother is the answer, though. Surely there are other things keeping OP and their mother together. And it's a word, not a secret that will tear apart the family forever.
