(Anonymous) 2014-12-18 03:40 am (UTC)(link)So to say "Well, of course Tamir Rice got shot" or "Of course Eric Garner got choked out" because "that's just what police do" misses the whole point to my mind. The question is whether or not doing something that warrants the attention of the police should immediately mean you should be in fear for your life. The point of whether or not the people involved did things to get the attention of law enforcement completely goes past that. The contention is precisely that police are too violent in their responses, especially involving black people.
The argument is about the behavior of police. What you're saying approaches the idea that they got involved legitimately, and anything after that is impossible to argue about, because once the police are involved, anything they do is right. It's the second part that I disagree with.
