I'm German but I've never been to the US so I have no idea what's hard to get there.

Since it's Christmas time the stores are filled with sweets and many families bake traditional cookies for the holidays, so if you like sweets you might want to ask for some Zimtsterne (almond cookies with cinnamon), Vanillekipferl (vanilla cookies) or Spekulatius (Speculoos). It's also the season for marzipan, there are many different varieties. My favorite are Mozartkugeln (little pistachio marzipan and nougat balls). They're actually an Austrian specialty but they're popular in Germany too.
If you want to try some non seasonal treats, I'd suggest asking for some gummy candy. We have a wide variety of stuff apart from the popular gummy bears.

I'm a little stumped on non food stuff, but you can shoot me a PM if you can think of a more specific direction.
