You know, I can definitely see that, OP. Laforge isn't directly her commander so it isn't a conflict of interest, and he seems like he'd be the kind of chill guy she'd get along with and balance out her own go-getter personality.

Oh that Ro joining the Maquis was such a bad end. The character had had a much more positive ending in her previous appearance. Of course, that ending would have precluded her from being with Geordi, so it might have made more sense to put her in a relationship with him if they wanted her to join a terrorist group.

I shipped this so hard back in the day.

I loved how when she comes back for her last episode, Geordie seems quite glad to see her and I was so happy that the show didn't forget that they'd been through this experience and had a connection, even if it was not romantiv. They don't hang out on screen in that episode, as I recall, so this was probably the first time I found myself grasping at straws for a ship.

I mean, the fact that Geordi's most notable canon romantic interest was a holodeck recreation of the person who designed the engines or whatever it was (it's been ages)? I think he saw her more or less as the MILF figure there...

This, so much. Back when we had to walk uphill both ways in the snow had to buy the VHS tapes individually by episode, I was using my $2 per week allowance to buy as many episodes as possible (I was 12!) and this was my I have to have this one for the season. Ro Laren was always my favourite, and this episode made my wee child's heart ship them like crazy (and let us never speak of her and the Marquis again).
